What to Look for in an ATS Resume Builder in India

Aug 1, 20268 min read

There are a lot of resume builders that claim to be "ATS-friendly" — most resume builders make that claim, and most of the time it means nothing more than "we used a clean-looking template." Since we make one of these tools ourselves, we won't pretend to be a neutral reviewer of every option out there. What we can do is tell you exactly what to check before trusting any ATS resume builder, India-specific or otherwise, and be upfront about where ATS Resume Craft fits.

What actually makes a builder "ATS-friendly"

The label gets used loosely. Here's what it should actually mean, regardless of which tool you pick:

  • Templates built on real structured text — single-column, or a two-column layout where the sidebar is genuine text, not an image or floating text box
  • No tables used for layout — many parsers read across table rows and scramble your data
  • Standard section headings the parser can recognize: "Experience," "Education," "Skills"
  • Export as a text-based PDF or DOCX, never a flattened image
  • A way to actually check your ATS score before you apply — not just a marketing claim
A quick test that works on any tool: export your resume, open the PDF, and try to select a line of text with your cursor. If you can't select it, an ATS can't read it either.

Things worth checking before you commit to a tool

  • Can you check your ATS score without creating an account first? Several tools in this space let you test before signing up — worth comparing.
  • Is there a visible watermark on the free-tier PDF export? Check this before you build your whole resume in a tool.
  • How many genuinely different templates are there, versus color/font variations of the same one or two layouts?
  • Does it support India-specific fields cleanly — CGPA/percentage formatting for 10th, 12th, and degree, which many Indian company ATS filters screen on?
  • Is pricing in INR, and is there a real free tier — not just a 7-day trial?

Where ATS Resume Craft fits

We built this tool around a specific gap: most builders make you fill out rigid forms, then generate a resume you can barely touch afterward. ATS Resume Craft works differently — you edit directly on the PDF itself, clicking any line of text to change it, dragging sections to reorder, adding or deleting blocks without starting over.

  • 13 ATS-tested templates, free tier included — not locked entirely behind a paywall
  • A free ATS checker that scores your resume against a job description, no account required to see how it works
  • Real-time ATS scoring inside the builder itself, not just as a separate one-off check
  • AI-powered bullet writing and keyword matching against a pasted job description
  • A Section Advisor that flags exactly which section is weakest for a given role
  • Pricing in INR, with a genuine free plan — Pro starts at ₹299/month for unlimited scans and generations

We're not going to claim we're the only option worth using — there are other builders in the Indian market worth comparing on the checklist above. What we'd ask is that you run the actual checklist against whatever you're considering, including us, rather than trusting an "ATS-friendly" label at face value.
